4 Tips To Make Your Wedding Day Photography Run Smoothly

4 tips to make your wedding photography run smoothly

Have you ever been to a wedding where the photography seems to take forever!! It’s annoying, stressful and boring for everyone!! Most of the time this isn’t the photographer's fault that it takes all day, for wedding photography to run smoothly it needs cooperation from everyone involved, the newly weds, the guests, vendors and of course the photographer.

Here are my 4 top things that you can do to make your wedding photography run smoothly.

1. Provide Your Photographer With Your List Of Group Photos

This is so important, we can’t stress this to you enough! Providing a list of your group photos to your photographer well in advance is soooo handy! It’s great for us to know how many photos you want and how long this is going to roughly take so that we can fit it into the timings for your day. One of the most time consuming events at a wedding is the group photos, especially if you want loads, we recommend keeping the number of group photos you want low and focusing on ones that you will actually use in the future, this will allow you more time to mingle with your guests on the day!

We make planning group photos super easy for our wedding clients, we provide you with a group photo template for you to fill in. Once we have received this we will then organise your photos into an order that will limit people moving around as much as possible, this is great for the older members of your family who have mobility issues and it also is great for (hopefully) preventing losing family members in between each photo (surprisingly it happens!!)

Bonus Tip: Tell your guests in advance if they are required for a group photo!! The bar (of course) suddenly becomes the most interesting thing once the ceremony is out of the way!!

2. Allow Enough Time For Photographs

Photographs are one of the only things you will have left from your wedding day, so allowing enough time for them is very important. Group photos are usually taken straight after the ceremony during your mingling time, before you sit down for your wedding breakfast. You can have as many group photos as you want as long as you allow enough time for each photo, we have our standard set of 10ish group photos and we then recommend at least 2 minutes per additional group photo.

Bonus Tip: Get into your wedding dress earlier than you think so that you have time for some cute photos with your mum and dad and your bridesmaids.

3. Get All Of Your Wedding Trinkets Ready

This is my favourite tip for bridal prep, put all of your trinkets and details in your shoe box with your wedding shoes (same for you boys!) do this the night before, it keeps you organised and prevents you from losing things in the hustle and bustle of the wedding morning, It’s soooo stressful when a bride can’t find their earrings just minutes before they walk down the aisle! And it’s also really easy to be able to point your photographer towards the box and let them get creative with your detail shots. It’s fantastic if you’re busy having your hair and makeup done, your photographer will take all of the beautiful intricate details without having to disturb you.

4. Assign Someone To Photo Duty.

One of the most boring things at a wedding is group photos, and in our experience everyone wants this over with as quickly as possible! This is such a good idea if you’re having a fairly large wedding, ideally this would be a couple of friends or family that between them they will know everyone at your wedding, a bridesmaid and/or groomsman is often perfect! These chosen people will be getting your guests ready for each group photo, they will essentially be working ahead of us, the photographers, in order to get the people ready for the next group photo, it works amazingly well and when done correctly it gives everyone more drinking and socialising time!!
